α-Cyclodextrin

α-cyclodextrin (α-CD) is a soluble dietary fibre derived from starch. Specifically, it contains six glucose units. It is a cyclic oligosaccharide with a ring structure, similar to β-cyclodextrin and γ-cyclodextrin, but with fewer glucose units. α-cyclodextrin is well known for its potential benefits in weight management and blood lipid control, especially for patients with type 2 diabetes.

α-cyclodextrin has a small pore size and is suitable for complexes of smaller molecules, so it is widely used in flavours and fragrances and food and beverage taste correction.
